WAR closes 42 servers

Finally..........at least now maybe they can focus on keeping the 20 servers left populated which I think should be merged into 15 if they want to keep the people who are left, and make all the remaining servers high population. They should of done this months ago instead of forcing everyone to play on low populated servers who than eventually quit the game. Now instead of 800k players spread out on 100 servers they have 200k on 20 or thereabouts. I can't wait to start running census on the remaining servers 24/7 once my new computer shows up so we can really tell how many people are really left.
I think this server merger is coming too late to save this game. I still see people quitting left and right, and I play on the most populated server. People are tired of the keep and battle objective taking which for the most part means nothing if you lose it. Yes you need to do it to eventually seige a city, but for the most part its one faction taking uncontested keeps/bo's in the elf area while the other faction is taking them in dwarf, and than both switch. Both sides avoid the fights for the most part because they know its faster and easier to gain renown swapping zones every 30 mins instead of fighting over a keep for 3 hours which benefits nothing.
I know on my old low populated server they spent 9 hours taking keeps/bo's and locking zones to fail at the fortress keep. What did it get them? Nothing, because once they fail all their work is erased, and to do it again would mean another 9 hours of work.
I still like the game, but I would like to see some changes. I think instead of keeps why not have guild bases/towns to take. People have more pride, and willing to defend something that is theirs than slapping a guild banner on a keep.
I remember in SWG's you would be pissed if your base got destroyed. You lost all your own merchants, your guild hangout, trainers, and alot of money to have to rebuild it. I remember you could pay to get better guards, turrets, and stuff which always made it more fun.
Even in DAOC the keeps were more exciting to take. Someone stealing the relic meant your faction lost the permanent buff from the relic which was like +str or +crit or something which was huge when you lost it. There was something about trying to track the person down through several zones to prevent them from putting the relic in their keep.
The game still has potential, but it will only be a niche game now. It will never have numbers like WoW, and I doubt its subscriber numbers will increase ever again. I think they will hit a certain number, and it will just stay steady from there until the next newest/greatest MMO comes out. I think people will only leave WoW once Blizzard comes out with their next MMO which most likely will be World of Starcraft or World of Diablo or something. An interesting thing I heard which sort of makes sense is that World of Warcraft was originally modeled after Warhammer Lore but Games Workshop didn't like it, and so they just made it their own instead. It seems it paid off for them, and just think how much money GW lost.
On Tuesday, March 10, we will be performing a final transfer of characters from several of the servers that have been, in the past, a source server (ie. we have offered transfers off of). Please read on for all the details, including a list of affected servers.
